I have been having fun working with Ice Resin and making gifts and jewelry for myself. I finally finished a necklace out of the metal pieces I worked with at Art and Soul several years ago. I have admired Diane Cook's thimble necklace and had a great time making mine.

Jen made the incredible birdhouse from flat metal! Amazing, and the patina is beautiful, the body of the birdhouse is etched, the pictures do not do it justice. Some people make similar ones using pipe, but Jen does it from a flat piece of metal. I am just now learning to solder and it truly is an art form. The second necklace is made from a beautiful small gold tin. Jen used a vintage tin type photo, and a small metal piece to complete it. Inside is a small handmade book. I will take a photo, it is amazing. The watch pendant does not show up well at all, but it is lovely! It has the watch working parts on the reverse. It felt like Christmas! Thank you Sis!

Mark and Jen (my Aussie Sis) came for a week's visit. I was unable to attend Art n Soul with her due to health issues, but they came over from Portland and we spent a week together here in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. We visited, went sightseeing, antiquing, girl shopping, and more. What a wonderful time we had together. It goes by so quickly! It is never enough time, yet I am so grateful for the time we have together. It felt like Christmas as Jen came laden with beautiful gifts of jewelry and specialty papers and projects.

A few years back there was a project that I participated in. The purpose of this project was to help raise money for Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. They created a collaborative art doll and held a raffle to win this beautiful art doll, along with creating a book titled TIES THAT BIND which is a 7x7 coffee table book showcasing the work of almost 100 artists along with inspirational quotes. This book and project was all possible due to the Internet. Each contributing artist had given of themselves in order to make a difference in the fight against ovarian cancer. The book is still for sale and all proceeds still go to OCRF. Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is difficult to detect, especially, in the early stages. This is partly due to the fact that these two small, almond shaped organs are deep within the abdominal cavity, one on each side of the uterus. These are some of the potential signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer:

Bloating
Pelvic or abdominal pain
Trouble eating or feeling full quickly
Feeling the need to urinate urgently or often

Other symptoms of ovarian cancer can include:

Fatigue
Upset stomach or heartburn
Back pain
Pain during sex
Constipation or menstrual changes

As most of you know I am a advanced ovarian cancer survivor for almost thirteen years!!!! YIPPEE~! I am so very grateful, as I am one of the fortunate ones. Please remember those that are still suffering and catch any symptoms early. I didn't and it almost cost me my life. BTW I am feeling great and no obstructions or problems. I have cut out all flour and sugar and processed foods. The nice part is I am getting back into my normal size again!

I HAD TO SNEAK MY SUGAR GIRL INTO THIS POST~ ! ISN'T SHE GORGEOUS!

My dear "Aussie Sis" Jen Crossley had a special 50th birthday and I knew I had to make her something unique and different. Jen LOVES vintage, so my collection of vintage laces and tatting came into play. I played around with the Dupioni silk and vintage laces, and findings until I was satisfied. I did a little bit of machine stitching, but did most of it by hand. I thought of using buttons and chain for closing, but the lacing gave it that magical look of vintage lingerie that I love. I hadn't used my eyelet tool for a very long time and that was a real challenge, but I was happy with the results.

I have been doing some therapy art! I got a electrical die cut machine last year and cut out all kinds of wonderful

dies, especially Tim Holtz dies. I decided to get vintage papers, fabric, netting, cheesecloth, and copper metal and use Tim's flower die cut. These are the results. Most will be used for scrapbooking, cards, and the metal ones for brooches. I loved heating the metal over the stove flame to bring out the beautiful colors.

There have never been two more beautiful words spoken than these last January after Jim went through his esophageal cancer reconstruction surgery in Portland, Oregon at OHSU. We have been on quite a journey these last five months, and my life has been devoted to my husband. Jim is now recovering from pneumonia after surgery and life should start to be becoming normal once again.

I look forward to creating and have my altered cookbook out to work on. My dear Sis, Jen got me started last summer and it has made it onto my work table. I will take pictures of it as it is a work in progress.

Please do come back and see more creating as the healing continues. I am very excited to be planning on going to Art & Soul Retreat in Portland, Oregon in September of this year.

LIVING ONE DAY AT A TIME

I haven't been keeping my blog up due to Jim's cancer and treatment. We have gone to Oregon Health and Science University Hospital in Portland, Oregon for a second opinion and Jim is set to have surgery January 5th there.

The treatment almost killed him, putting him in the hospital for eleven days. It was brutal with the radiation and chemo together. Jim has a heart condition that has also complicated things. Today was the day he was scheduled for surgery but due to the complications we are waiting until after the holidays. Jim is starting to feel better, put some weight on, and is gaining energy.

We just celebrated a early Christmas celebration with two of our children and our two grandchildren. It was a wonderful week-end full of sledding, games, laughter, and eating! I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and I will be back after Jim recovers. Please keep us in your prayers. This is a very serious surgery and with Jim's heart it places him at a higher risk.

Update on Life

I have not posted in a very long time due to my husband, Jim, being diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer. It has hit us very hard and he has been very ill. He is going through radiation and chemotherapy presently. He is facing a very large and life changing surgery. His entire esophagus will be removed and his stomach will be pulled up and made into a new esophagus. It is truly amazing what they can do these days and we are grateful.
My whole life revolves around him and making him comfortable, keeping weight on him, and just being together.

We just celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary September 20th. I hope to spend many more years with this man who is the love of my life.

I am home after ten days in California to visit friends and most importantly family. Clara and Benjamin were a complete joy to be with. Grandchildren make you feel like the most important person in the world! I learned about all kinds of bugs and lizards from Ben. Clara and I had girl time together and she taught me how to use my new ITouch IPOD. Ken and Lisa couldn't have been better to me. Traveling was a challenge, but I did it! Rosie and I did some creating with beeswax collages. It was a relaxing and fun time. On the last leg of my trip Bruce and Donna gave me some great R & R time. Donna pampered me and then I headed back home. Sugar was so excited to see me she jumped over the seat and curled up on my lap and whimpered. Sugar was my shadow for days. I think Jim was happy to see me too!

I am rested up and ready to do some creating and clean up my studio!

It has been a few weeks since I posted. I want to share a gorgeous wall hanging I received as a Birthday Gift from my dear friend Lynda. She machine embroidered the Victorian frame and presented a very detailed image of a small child under a vintage optical lens. This picture contains gold flecks and brightly colored yarn. This offers a very subtle textured design. The entire art piece is made with a glossy patterned fabric and look at the row of feathered flowers. They richly pick-up the colors and complete this great presentation! Thank you dear Linda...A Real Treasure!

I Love My Dog! Sugar has adapted quite well to becoming a pet. I have taught her it is okay to have toys and she carries around her bear and takes it to bed with her! Being an adopted dog she deals with anxiety if we leave her. She has jumped up on the window trying to get out. For her safety we have to put her in the garage with her bed and water. When I come home she is so anxious and runs around the backyard like a track really fast to get her anxiety out. If anyone has any suggestions I would be grateful. My husband refuses to try to crate train her which I think would be the best thing for her. She brings us both a lot of joy. She is fortunate because we are retired and are with her most of the time.

BATHROOM IS DONE! & GARAGE & ESTATE SALES

Here is the completed bathroom with all new tile shower and tiled bath & new tiled floor. It is incredible, my shower has never felt so good!
I have the after and before pics so you can get an idea. The wall had to come down and the fiberglass shower pulled out. It made the bathroom so much lighter and brighter & the shower larger.

To top it all off my hair has been growing in beautifully after falling out so terribly after my two surgeries and 6+week stay in the hospital. My shoulder is healing and I will be doing physical therapy for 3 months. I am starting to create again and it feels good. My house has been my pallet for the last year!

I went to an estate sale where they were liquidating a older ladie's collections. I loved this old pocket watch with the beading around it. I will re-do the buttons and ribbon and come up with my own idea, but what fun rummaging through all of it. I got a bolt of gorgeous fabric for throw pillows or whatever in my home colors for a song.

and lots of fun goodies and spent a whopping $40!
It is pretty hard to be that entertained for a day and only spend $40 or less, can't remember exactly. The hunt is the best part. I haven't shown pictures of the different fabric pieces included in that. Now I have to stay home and make some fun things with it all.

Jan Bartlett is a very special friend for many years. Without fail she remembers me on my birthday. This year, no matter what the circumstances of my life, I was going to remember her. We share a love of machine embroidery and I incorporated that with a small fabric wallhanging. I used a vintage optical lens to create a "photo" for the embroidered frame. She says she loves it!

This has been quite a process and we are still waiting for the glass. Taking the wall down opened the bathroom up so much and the tile turned out beautifully. I can't wait to try it out! I will take another when it is complete. Here is a shot of the vanity angle. We are taking the big mirror down and having two mirrors with the chair rail tile around it. I can't wait for the glass so we can use it.

Clara is 10 and celebrating with her friends with a "frog" theme. I had the pleasure of making goody bags for her birthday party. It was fun making these for Clara and one for Benjamin.

I am learning so much about my machine and the computer system that controls the embroidery function. I look forward to creating more fun things for the grand-kids and also embellishing clothing and quilts and more.

Sugar has her place between the sofa and coffee table. She even has her own "throw!" What a joy she is to me. She is so loving and sweet.

I am very excited as I am having a artist come to my home to give me an estimate for faux finishing an accent wall. We went to a Home & Garden show and her work is incredible. Some of her techniques are so similar to a lot of our mixed media, just on a much grander scale. Keep your fingers crossed it won't be tooooooo expensive!

I have been working on machine embroidering and am making Clara (10 yr old granddaughter) frog giftbags for her birthday party. I will post them soon. I had great fun being creative with very colorful frogs!

Jen Crossley, my Aussie Sis made this puzzle collage for me quite some time ago and mailed it piece by piece to cheer me up while going through a difficult time. Of course the big jokster that she is, she didn't mail a piece and said it must be lost in the mail. I was just sick and then it showed up! I mounted the puzzle a different way and it just wouldn't do, so finally found a way to do it to make the most of it. I used metal letters on the left side, tying ribbons to each and gluing them down to spell SISTERS, then repeated the process on the right side spelling FRIENDS. Jen is truly my chosen sister and a wonderful friend. The puzzle collage is a masterpiece and something I enjoy looking at daily.

This is my new girl Sugar. I have been broken hearted ever since we lost our Missy. We adopted Sugar a couple of days ago and she is a real sweet girl. She is two years old and is adjusting to her new home.
She has never had toys or tennis balls and that is so odd to us with having Goldens for years. She was going to be bred as these people have a business breeding and selling puppies. Sugar is very petite and was too small for breeding. They had four kids so the toys belonged to the kids, not the dogs! I will work with her and pretty soon she will be playing with toys. I'm happy!

HICKORY FLOORS!

The floors are in, the baseboards completed and Mama's Happy!

When we purchased this home I knew there were several projects that needed to be done and I have my new wood floors! The only thing left is to re-d0 our bathroom and that will be a while. I think some paint will keep me happy for a while. Oh, forgot to mention I am going to paint the wall behind the sofa a accent color and the trey ceiling in the
dining room. The house is painted a nice light tan color, darker than it shows in the picture, but it needs some punch!

Tonight we celebrated my daughter's 40th birthday! It is hard to
believe my baby girl is 40! The four of us had a wonderful evening eating Hon's delicious hamburgers, playing a new card game, and then eating Kim's favorite Mississippi Mudcake. If I say so myself, it was delicious. I had to put it in the frig outside so I don't keep eating it!

God is good! We are so blessed in these difficult times.

FRUSTRATION ABOUNDS!

My challenge for this new year is #1 to be healthy, and #2 to learn this complicated embroidery sewing machine of which I purchased an even more complicated software program! I had lesson one and all went well. I decided to monogram napkins for our finer dining experiences. My machine did not co-operate at all. I have done this before with no problems, but the thread jammed up under the feeddog so badly I could barely get it out of the machine. I tried to no avail three different times, changing the bobbin thread, rethreading the machine, changing the needle........and every tool I looked for I couldn't find and I was ready to get rid of everything! Anyone else go through these kind of days? My solution was to walk away and wait for my lesson on Thursday and to call my Aussie Sis and talk for an hour and a half!

Back to my #1 to be healthy, I started going back to the gym and thought I took it easy, but I have tweaked my neck and had a migraine for three days! I guess all that arm movement in the pool aggravated my neck. I took a couple days off and am going to give it another go tomorrow.

Here's to a new day!!!!!!! If it doesn't get better watch for my huge sale!

SON CHAD CAME FOR A WEEK VISIT

Chad came for a visit after many years of not seeing him. We have had a wonderful visit, viewing the visiting eagles at Lake Coeur d'Alene, going to Wolf People and Chad going to the ranch and seeing all of the wolves, Christmas dinner with Kim & Patrick, and a "Thanksgiving dinner" with all the trimmings I made for Chad before he left. Just spending time together was wonderful. It was good getting to know one another again. Telephone calls just don't make it!

A VISIT FROM OUR DAUGHTER

Laura came to visit December 10th through the 15th and it wasn't long enough! What a wonderful time we had. Laura is from Texas and she wanted to see snow. Even the weather co-operated and we had two white days before she left. We went to see the wolves, all of the beautiful lights in Coeur d'Alene, saw the Festival of Trees at the Davenport Hotel in Spokane, and enjoyed the beauty of the restored hotel. We all went to the movies and saw Blindsided, if you haven't seen it, it is fabulous. We were so fortunate that the eagles are here at the lake this time of year. It is amazing seeing them overhead and then swooping down and scooping up a fish. Laura saw kids ice skating on a lake and was thrilled! She couldn't imagine that men ice fish. She was quite taken with our beautiful area, no surprise. I am still recuperating so we weren't able to do a lot of walking touristy things, but we gave her the famous "Jim Tour" of Coeur d'Alene and area in the car. She and I had a wonderful time watching Christmas movies late into the night . We miss you Laura!

wonderful friends had lost in a fire. Upon hearing of us losing Missy she offered to make me a ornament for my tree. It is so beautifully stitched and so appreciated.

I had a wonderful 61st birthday on the 20th. Friends and family made it so special. My Mom sent me some very unique gifts this year, a vintage pistol that we realized has live ammo in it! This small pistol was my grandfather's and he gave it to my father when he was 17. It was made in Spain and is a real keepsake. She also gave me my father's collection of coins from WWII. I used to sneak in the drawer growing up as I was so fascinated with them! There are coins from New Zealand, Australia, and many more that I haven't examined yet. I am told during the war he was very enamored with a Aussie! I know my Aussie Sis will like that. My kids gave me gifts to pamper myself knowing I am still recovering. Very thoughtful! When I opened a package from a dear dear friend Jan Bartlett I was overwhelmed. She embroidered a fabric collage with a beautiful Golden Retriever in memory of our Dear Missy girl. She also included a beautiful vintage linen embellished with embroidery. The collage brought a tear to both of our eyes. Jan you are SPECIAL!

I received so many calls and cards and want to say I felt very special!

ON THE COMPUTER AGAIN...

I am back on the computer daily. I spent over six and a half weeks in the hospital with a planned major surgery and unknown to anyone, I had a perforated bowel from the first surgery and it took a couple of weeks before my body started seeping fluid from my lower abdomen. They did an emergency major surgery which was touch and go. The surgeon told my husband and I it looked like a hand grenade had gone off inside me. He wasn't sure he could do anything to fix it. He did his best and fortunately I am still here! It has been quite the experience and one I never want to go through again. Even after getting out of the hospital, my strength is very low and I am working on getting back to normal. I rest a lot and friends have been wonderful to bring in meals and do anything else they can to help. I am so fortunate to have such wonderful friends! Thank you! You all know who you are.

A gift from Jen & more creations

This gorgeous book was shown to me when Jen arrived and I was so excited to see her work in person and had asked if she could bring one of her books to show me. Much to my surprise, this beautiful book is mine! I will share the pages as I gain more strength. It is something you don't want to miss! Thanks Sis! I look at it often and appreciate everything you did.

We used a very detailed stamp to etch this switch plate. It is better in person and we also used a high gloss shine spray to give it a nice finish.

This is my favorite piece. Jen brought a kit for me to complete while she was here. I did my first etching and then created my composition. I used vintage papers and aged the sides and then put it all together. It is a real conversation starter!

Thanks for all my great gifts and classes Sis! Well, I guess if we add in Matthews food bill we might be even!!!!!!!!! What a joy to see that boy enjoy our American food, especially Jim's "beerbuttchicken!"

JEN CROSSLEY & I CREATING IN SEPT

Jen taught me etching and we discovered Aussie & US etching solution are different strengths. We left this piece in for a VERY long time and the edges turned out "ragged" and I will use that to my advantage when I make it a bookcover.
After seeing Jen's fabulous photo necklaces I bought a camera and had it forever. I gave it to Jen to take home and use. She took it apart and made me a gorgeous necklace with it, with some design imputs! We are great together, too bad we live a world apart..........

The last necklace Jen and I had fun taking a shoe buckle and creating a beautiful vintage choker or long necklace.

The time we spent creating together was the best. I haven't made any jewelry since she was here last year, so it was nice to be creating again.

HOSPITALIZATION & SURGERY

Jen, Mark, Nicole, Matthew & I at the Spokane Airport. The kids flew straight in from Victoria, Australia to LA, then onto here. It was great!
Enjoying the boat on the Spokane River in front of the "Amway House." Maybe we should have worked harder????
The raft was a blast. We girls all had a go of it as well. The lake will never get over the screams!
In Australia Halloween is not celebrated, so I had to indoctrinate Nicole & Matthew with our traditions. They cleaned and carved them and had a great time.

Unfortunately I have been out of commission due to chronic small bowel obstructions as a result of adhesions from the surgeries I have had for ovarian cancer. After a short hospitalization I am resting and hoping to get back to creating soon.

Our local quilt guild had our bi-annual quilt show here in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho a few weeks ago. I worked in our "Country Store," a very reasonable store that we guild members set up and sell donated goods from the members. We all clean out our studios and let someone else have our UFO's and those items that we just had to have but never used. Of course I spent $ while working as I stashed away this and that. I kept eyeing this unfinished vintage quilt top that someone's grandmother started and then they added more to. As the two days went by the price kept dropping and during the last three hours everything went to half price. I decided to get it for $20, of course my husband thinks I was ripped off! I have taken it apart, purchased reproduction fabrics to replace the fabrics that I believed didn't work. I am now in the process of deciding where all of these fabrics will be placed. It is like one big puzzle. I made sure to keep all of the pieces of the squares together. Here is a picture of it laid out as I received it. Only the top portion was all put together. I can't wait to see the finished quilt.

I won a $10 credit on Pat Winter's blog and put it towards the purchase of a custom glass case. I so admire her beautiful crazy quilting. I have come to the conclusion that instead of trying to learn every technique I admire and having to purchase all of the supplies, I will purchase what I admire and enjoy it and continue with all of my ongoing projects! I told Pat that I would like something vintage, that I liked olive green, burgundy and sepia. The case is lying on my bedspread and it looks like it was made to go with it! She is GOOD! I love a vintage sepia look and this has that look as well. I have collected bark through the years never doing anything with it, but now I will! This is a custom order created by Ro from Australia for me. I decided to sell some of my designer jewelry and took my $$ and purchased a custom necklace Ro commented about in her blog. It is a sewing theme and I have been a seamstress my whole life, so it is rather fitting. The workmanship in Ro's jewelry is so professional. What a pleasure to meet Susan Lenz while in North Carolina. We collaborated on a Decision Series portrait of me via e-mail. What an incredible experience to see it in person and also see and touch her grave rubbing series quilts. We talked and talked while sharing enjoying our love for fiber, and then went to see a wonderful art show. Susan had two pieces in the show and what a great day enjoying the show with her. I wish we had had much more time together! We will another time. Susan is so knowledgeable and talented and was a great source of inspiration to me.

North Carolina Vacation

Jim and I had the most wonderful time in North Carolina. Apparently we went at the very best time of the year. The Azaleas were in bloom amid the gorgeous Carolina Pines. Dave and Mary introduced us to the most wonderful bbq food, especially the Hush Puppies!!!!!!!!!!! We met all of their great neighbors, enjoyed the beautiful countryside, found all of the old cemeteries for me, and checked out the beautiful North Carolina lakes. I wanted to pack up and move to this beautiful state! We went to the coast and discovered the great Outer Banks. I saw the Rodanthe house from Nights at Rodanthe. I drove by Nicolas Sparks home and took the same journey Dr. Paul did in the book and movie. I loved digging my toes in the sand and scouring the beaches for glass and shells. We walked on the same ground that the Wright Brothers did at Kitty Hawk! The ferry to Ocracoke was pretty wild! Cape Hatteras was wonderful and full of interesting sites to see. Above and beyond anything Dave and Mary are the most incredible hosts we have experienced. Friends cannot describe how special they are to Jim and I. I know God put the four of us together and it is for always. They are family! Thanks Guys!

I have been invited to the reception and unfortunately we will be unable to attend as Jim and I are going to North Carolina for two weeks to see very dear friends. I love Batiks and had fun making this Charm Tote. This was fun and easy and about as traditional as I plan to get in my "quilting."
This is my landscape quilt in progress. I am practicing my free motion quilting and improving by practicing. I have learned a great deal by designing and working on this quilt. I have a long way to go, but thought I would share at this point.
I thought I would share my VERY MESSY studio and let my friends know it does become a disaster area! I have about four projects in the works. I am working on my samples for my Textured Surfaces and that has been a great learning experience.
Here is my first painted textured surface. I am having fun with the Golden Acrylics. There will be more to come soon!

I decided to take a "true" quilting class and never again! I am not a precise person, but the end result turned out nicely. I was determined to finish it for my house for Christmas. I conquered quilting with metallic thread, breaking about every ten minutes or so. It does look pretty on my dinnette table! Still won't take a traditional quilting class again, freeform is for me.

Today was a day full of introspections. Ten years ago today I was diagnosed and operated on for advanced ovarian cancer. After five major surgeries, chemotherapy, many hospitalizations, lymphedema, and a immune system that isn't the best, I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR MY LIFE!!!!!!!! God is incredible and I give him the glory for giving me a second chance at living. I was very teary today remembering these last ten years. Tomorrow I will be sharing at Bible study "my story." I hope by sharing my story I can make a difference.

Thank you my dear Jen and family for my beautiful flowers. They are gorgeous and ease you not being here, just a little!

HEAVENLY GARDENS IN CANADA

These are actual photos I took while visiting Butchart Gardens near Victoria, British Columbia on Vancouver Island. It was so incredibly beautiful. There just aren't words to describe it. It truly is the most beautiful place I have been on earth.

We also visited Salt Spring Island where you are able to visit artists at their residence and go into their studios. It was a great experience.

We were gone ten days and saw all of Vancouver Island and came home to North Idaho via the Southern route of British Columbia. Canada is clean, beautiful, and the people are so nice and friendly.

This is my granddaughter Clara. I made her "Dorothy" dress for her for Halloween. I think she is absolutely adorable! Of course I would think that! :-) Don't ya just love the red shoes!~

This is my Halloween table runner I started and didn't get finished. Our trip got in the way! I have decided that I won't do applique in quilting projects anymore. Don't care for all those little pieces! The grandkids will get it next year....

Ties That Bind - A group of artists bound together by art and the desire to create a collabortive art doll to help raise funds for Ovarian Cancer Research. I had the opportunity to participate and create a charm for this art doll. I am a (almost!) TEN YEAR survivor of advanced ovarian cancer, this cause is very close to my heart.

As I gathered my thoughts for the charm I was going to make, I knew I couldn't just make one. Over the last ten years I have become sisters with several fighters in the battle to survive. I wanted to take this opportunity to honor Carole who was so wise and such a beautiful spirit in her five year battle. We became so close and she taught me so much. Louise, who graciously shared and fought to survive, but it wasn't to be. Sheri so young at forty, with two children, became my little sister. She fought, she loved, and she died so quickly. My heart broke each time as we all shared so much during our fight to survive. I remember telling them I was feeling guilty that I was to live, and I was assured that I must survive and share my story so that others could live. This first charm "Linda" represents me, the survivor, and the other survivors out there still fighting the side effects of the invasive surgeries, chemotherapy, and so much more, but still dancing! I got my cancer at the age of 49.
I have been through five invasive surgeries (3 due to adhesions) and one series of chemotherapy.
This charm is in memory of Louise. Louise was a classy lady who fought the good fight! She earned her wings. Louise got ovca in her late 50's and survived 3 years going through two invasive surgeries and several chemotherapy series.
This charm is in memory of Carole. Carole was an incredible artist and I know she has spread her wings in heaven, sharing her wisdom and gifts. Carole was 59 and lived to 64 going through
four invasive surgeries and several chemotherapies.
This charm is in memory of Sheri. She is a beautiful angel watching over her son and daughter. Sheri had one surgery and two series of chemotherapy. She lived a year and a half, she was 40.

I hope they are all laughing and sharing the wonderful times we all had together going out to lunch with our headwraps and wigs, sharing as only those that are going through it can.

Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer is difficult to detect, especially, in the early stages. This is partly due to the fact that these two small, almond shaped organs are deep within the abdominal cavity, one on each side of the uterus. These are some of the potential signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer:

Pelvic or abdominal pain or discomfort
· Vague but persistent gastrointestinal upsets such as gas, nausea, and indigestion

· Frequency and/or urgency of urination in the absence of an infection

· Unexplained weight gain or weight loss

· Pelvic and/or abdominal swelling, bloating and/or feeling of fullness

· Ongoing unusual fatigue

· Unexplained changes in bowel habits
If symptoms persist for more than 2 weeks, consult your physician.
Persistence of Symptoms
When the symptoms are persistent, when they do not resolve with normal interventions (like diet change, exercise, laxatives, rest) it is imperative for a woman to see her doctor. Persistence of symptoms is key. Because these signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer have been described as vague or silent, only around 19% of ovarian cancer is found in the early stages. Symptoms typically occur in advanced stages when tumor growth creates pressure on the bladder and rectum, and fluid begins to form.
A Rectovaginal pelvic examination is when the doctor simultaneously inserts one finger in the rectum and one in the vagina.
It is helpful to take a mild laxative or enema before the pelvic exam.
Have a comprehensive family history taken by a physician knowledgeable in the risks associated with ovarian cancer. 5% to 10% of ovarian cancer has a familial link.
Every woman should undergo a regular rectal and vaginal pelvic examination. If an irregularity of the ovary is found, alternatives to evaluation include transvaginal sonography and/or tumor markers. The most common tumor marker is a blood test called the CA-125.

I was very excited to go to the North Idaho Fair and see that my "Foundart" wallhanging quilt won first place in that category!~ I also won three more first places for my lace embellished denim clothing. I hand dye the lace with different colors and it is so much fun and so different than anything most people have ever seen. I have the clothing on my website www.lindalynch.com . Here is the happy family at Silverwood Theme Park. Jim and I went just to watch them all have fun. It wasn't a hot day so we opted not to go on the "wet" rides or participate in the waterpark. They all had a great time and they wore us "old folks" out!
One of our days on the lakes. Clara is a fish and Benjamin is getting pretty brave. He is ready for swimming lessons when he gets home. We had a great time enjoying our grandchildren and watching our son and wife being parents. They are doing a Great Job~!

Clara and Benjamin came for a visit and we were on the go! We visited Silverwood Theme Park, even Mammie & Papa! It was great to watch the kids on the rides and enjoying the waterpark. They met the wolves near Sandpoint, played at the wonderful Coeur d'Alene Park, swam in Lake Coeur d'Alene, went to Eddie's on the lake and came home in the dark on the lake! That was eerie...., but we made it. We all spent the day on the boat at Hayden Lake relaxing and playing in the water. We already miss them.

We were able to spend more time with our grandson Dustin last week-end and what a special treat it was. He is 17 and it is hard to imagine how big he is! We had a very long winter this year with a lot of snow, so I think we went over the top a bit with our deck flowers! Although I must say you can never have too many flowers. This is one of my favorite places to spend time enjoying a book, a visit with "Hon" or enjoying Missy. We are contemplating having a pergola with louvres put up but it sure is expensive. We have vinyl fences and composite decking so opt out for the vinyl pergola. We don't think about oil causing that to go up, but it has due to it being a petroleum product. We are trying to do our part by combining errands, Jim using his scooter to run to the store, but we sure do have challenges with the gas continuing to rise. I guess the answer is to stay home and enjoy my flowers!

Rosie and I played with beeswax while I visited in California. This is a copy of a 1809 French document and a copy of a antique French postcard. I continue to be drawn to beeswax collage and love the antique look.

Rosie created this great beeswax collage from a antique postcard and then used it as a cover for a small book.
This is my favorite collage! Rosie is a watercolor artist and this collage reminds me of her watercolor with the techniques she used. I always learn from her everytime we create.

Jen made this beautiful handmade Daffodil floral arrangement. The work that went into this piece is amazing. I will treasure it for the rest of my life. I have it where I see it first thing in the morning. The daffodil is the first flower to come up in the Spring and it represents Courage & Strength to those fighting cancer. Jen made this in honor of her Mum and I.

This little beauty was the first gift Jen presented to me. I remember when she made it and it was a challenge. I am in awe of her talents. The beveled glass and metal hinge with wonderful treasures hanging from it make it something to behold.

Jen's jewelry making has been such a benefit to me! This beautiful silver wire wrapped necklace and wire wrapped bracelet were made for me and I love them! The necklace pendant is made from sea glass and has the words treasure, sister, & friend. The bracelet is wire wrapped with wonderful fabric beads, charms, and stones. Jen must REALLY love me! I made her a homemade pineapple upside down cake and after taking it out of the oven I realized I forgot to put the brown sugar and butter in it! I am known for being a great baker & it was so embarrassing. I ended up mixing up the ingredients and adding it to the cake. It wasn't beautiful, but it sure tasted good.

After FOUR long years we are so happy to see one another. Next visit we are hoping to have Matthew and Nicole along.
We had a neighborhood party for Jen & Mark and everyone thought they were delightful.

Jenny fell in live with Missy, our seven year old Golden Retriever, and believe me Missy fell for Jen! She missed her so much after she left. They brought her a stuffed Koala and she carried it around in her mouth searching the house for Jen. We had a wonderful day on the boat and had lunch at "Eddie's" on the lake. Jen was living "The American Dream" according to her!

Jim took Jen for a scooter ride and they both had a ball. Of course Jim delighted in scaring Jen and she shrieked and that only encouraged him. Such a bad boy I married!
